What defines a special scaffold.
Special scaffolds depart from the standard configurations – for example in high-bay warehouses, on complex industrial plant or on listed buildings. The same safety provisions and generally recognised rules of engineering apply as for other scaffold types. Erection must be strictly aligned with the relevant scaffolding standards and the rules of the German employers' liability insurance for the construction industry (DGUV).
Because no standard configuration applies, individual design, structural proof and a careful risk assessment are the rule – not the exception.

A keder roof (German: Kederdach) is a temporary weather-protection roof over a scaffold: tarpaulins or profile sheets are drawn into the grooves of aluminium trusses by a keder (an edge-reinforced plastic bead) and tensioned. This creates a closed, rain- and wind-tight encapsulation – e.g. for roof refurbishment, facade work or timber construction.
The keder roof is a special scaffold: it must carry the additional wind and snow loads and is designed and anchored to the Eurocodes (DIN EN 1991) and the scaffolding standards.
